It depends on the provider. Basically, there is no reason to be afraid of chip tuning. Specialists such as DigiTec intecno offer technically flawless performance upgrades that utilize the engine's mechanical reserves, but never exceed them.
The tuning is done by reprogramming the original control unit, usually via the OBD interface. The engine data set is read out in our workshop and, after DigiTec has processed it, it is uploaded to the control unit again. It is not necessary to open the control unit.
The whole process takes about 2.5 hours. You are welcome to wait with us and drink a coffee or eat a cake in the bistro of Kiki Kiss Kiss (in the same building complex).
The original engine data set of your vehicle is stored by us and can be uploaded again at any time. This service is unlimited in time and costs EUR 79.00 (incl. VAT).
By increasing the torque and optimizing the injection timing and quantity, the full-load portion is reduced - with the same driving style - and up to 2 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers can be saved.
There are many black sheep on the market, also when it comes to chip tuning. We therefore recommend that you only rely on renowned tuning specialists who have been on the market for many years.
To be honest: would you like to risk an engine damage that could be in the five-figure range? Here is a very clear NO! This is saving at the wrong end. It is better to invest a few euros more and do not take any incalculable risks.
It is a matter of philosophy whether the extra power is achieved via an additional control unit or via "flashing" - reprogramming the original engine control unit. The new software that is used is much more important. Flashing can only be carried out directly on the vehicle and is therefore a local solution. Providers such as DigiTec intecno are therefore building up a network of support dealers and commissioning companies such as Bremotion to serve the local market.
There is a lot of uncertainty when it comes to guarantees, but the situation is clearly regulated. The Association of Automobile Tuners (VDAT eV) states in a press release (March 2016): "A guarantee commitment is not canceled across the board if someone installs an accessory from a third-party supplier," says VDAT Managing Director Harald Schmidtke. "Comparable to the applicable rules for statutory warranties, the so-called causal connection is also important for the guarantee." Put simply, this means that damage must be related to the tuning part. A blanket loss of warranty for the vehicle is therefore not permitted!
